ImportError: cannot import name 'constants' from 'device'

Hello,

I have installed QTCAD properly and I ran the :practical application" once. Few days later I am getting this error for most of my imports from device. Do you know why?

First if all, thanks a lot for reaching out to us.

You probably checked these options, but let's first state the obvious possible error sources that we all encountered inadvertently at some point.

Did you run the commend pip install . inside the QTCAD conda environment at the root of the QTCAD directory when installing QTCAD? If not, I could imagine that running the practical applications directly inside the QTCAD directory may work (since Python would properly find all modules relative to the root of the directory), but that running any other script outside the QTCAD directory would fail since QTCAD would not be properly installed. A common mistake that could be done while installing is to forget to activate the conda environment before running pip install . (which results in QTCAD being installed in the base environment rather than the qtcad environment), or forgetting to type pip install . altogether.
Could you possibly have forgotten to activate the environment (conda activate qtcad) before running the scripts in which you encountered the ImportError?

If you could verify if one of these possibilities apply in your case, this would be great! Please let us know if you think that the problem is different.

Hi Felix,

Thanks a lot for your prompt response. I followed the installation steps that you have introduced online. On Friday, I started my own code and it was working. But not for today! So, I uninstalled everything and reinstalled them, from scratch, and I was super careful to not forget any step. But again modules are not defined to the programming environment.
I noticed one thing. I used to run my codes in "Spyder (qtcad)" and now it is gone. I think if I could return it, the problem would be solved, as I am seeing from anaconda prompt that all modules are installed in qtcad env.

If running your codes in "Spyter (qtcad)" does not resolve the issue, then I think that it would be easier to organize a live debugging session in a virtual meeting.

I would be surprised if there was anything fundamentally wrong here. This is probably something simple. Some IDEs have a terminal that does not behave exactly the same as the default system terminal. As an illustration of this class of problems, in Windows, VSCode uses the normal terminal and some fiddling around is needed to make it work with PowerShell.

As I mentioned, I don't have access to "Spyder (qtcad)" anymore. I can see it in my files but I cannot have it opened.
